As long as the children are small, give them roots; when they have grown up, give them wings

Children’s Homes and Education in South India e.V.

The Hemalata children’s homes are the result of a private initiative in India that receives no state support.

Mrs. Hemalata, the director of the two institutions, has made it her mission to provide a home for over 200 children.

The children are between one and sixteen years old and belong to different religions. They are looked after all day, attend nursery schools, schools and training workshops and can stay in the homes until the end of their vocational training. Further education of all kinds is also financed by donations.

The Protestant parish of Baiersdorf was the sponsor of the orphanages for 40 years. The upkeep and development of the two orphanages has been financed by sponsorships and donations from Germany for years.

During this time, the couple Irmgard and Dieter Castelhun visited the orphanages every year on behalf of the church community in order to gain an overview of the necessary projects and the required investments.

For their voluntary work, Irmgard Castelhun, who has since passed away, was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 2012 and Dieter Castelhun in 2020.

Our sponsorship project

Our sponsorship project has proven its worth for 28 years now and is the basic framework for financing the two children’s homes for currently around 150 children. The individual and large donations largely finance the necessary construction and renovation of houses, workshops and wells, as well as the renovation of sanitary facilities, the purchase of modern gas kitchens, the cultivation of fruit and vegetable gardens and the maintenance of a medical outpatient clinic and a training center for young people, the Zion Technical Institute (ZTI). After completing their training, the skilled workers’ certificates are valid throughout India and guarantee that graduates can find work in companies in the region.

To ensure that our diverse project work and the use of sponsorship funds remain traceable in the future, we as a support group team have decided to find an independent support association Hemalata Kinderheime und Ausbildung in Südindien e.V. at the beginning of 2023.

On our website www.Hemalata-Foerderkreis.de, you will get an insight into the projects and work of our support group and the opportunities to support us in our work.

Thank you for your interest and support
